STEL: Secure TELnet

چکیده
Eavesdropping is becoming rampant on the Internet We as CERT IT have recorded a great number of sni ng attacks in the Italian community In fact sni ng is the most popular hacker s attack technique all over the Internet This paper presents a secure telnet implementation which has been designed by the Italian CERT to make eavesdropping ine ective to remote terminal sessions It is not to be considered as a de nitive solution but rather as a bandaid solution to deal with one of the most serious security threats of the moment

Secure RPC Authentication (SRA) for TELNET and FTP
TELNET and FTP currently exchange user authentication (passwords) in plain text, which is easily eavesdropped. Several techniques, such as Kerberos and SPX, have been proposed in draft RFCs to implement secure authentication. These techniques, however, have several drawbacks, including technical complexity, poor vendor support, and organizational problems. This paper presents SRA, a very simple...
متن کاملSecurity and Predictability: Two Missing Pieces in BGP
Lack of Security: BGP’s resilience against attack is essential for the security of the Internet. BGP currently enables peers to transmit route announcements over authenticated channels, so that adversaries cannot impersonate the legitimate sender of a route announcement. This approach, which verifies who is speaking but not what they say, leaves the current infrastructure extremely vulnerable t...

متن کاملThe Design of Authenticated Telnet Protocol to Enhance Cryptography and Security
In this paper, an authenticated TELNET protocol is proposed to establish TELNET connections with authentication and security. To achieve this goal, specific cryptographic algorithms and certificates are used to resist attacks such as eavesdropping, tampering, forgery and personating. The concept of designing this proposed protocol is to negotiate one cipher spec (one suite of cryptographic algo...
